Grupo Murano (Murano PV, S.A. de C.V.), controlled by businessman Elías Sacal Cababie, is a large-scale hotel and tourism developer with operations in Cancún. In 2024 it listed on the Nasdaq through a combination with the SPAC HCM Acquisition Corp, in a deal that valued the company at around USD 810 million. Its flagship is the Grand Island Cancún complex (with hotels under brands such as Dreams and Hyatt Vivid), plus Dreams Chateau in Ensenada, Baja California. Grand Island has faced environmental and regulatory controversy: SEMARNAT's 2019 environmental impact authorization was questioned over over-densification and wastewater handling, and the Senate urged the federal Executive to begin annulment (lesividad) proceedings against those permits; verify before buying.
